D-backs president Derrick Hall: Franchise ‘still focused on Arizona’ Top Stories What an MLB source said about the D-backs’ trade haul for Greinke The Cardinals need to see improvement from their offensive line, and it may come by way of forced change. Through retirement and free agency, there are many players who will have to sign on the dotted line if they are to remain wearing Cardinal red. Lyle Sendlein is one such player.Re-up: Sendlein emerged from undrafted rookie to starter on a team that went to the Super Bowl. The 25-year-old, who played his college ball at Georgia, is the son of former Cardinals kicker Kevin Butler. The move was necessary for the Cardinals because veteran Dave Zastudil has been bothered by a groin injury. Top Stories The 5: Takeaways from the Coyotes’ introduction of Alex Meruelo Derrick Hall satisfied with D-backs’ buying and selling The Arizona Cardinals announced the signing of punter Drew Butler Monday, just hours before their-season opening game against the San Diego Chargers at University of Phoenix Stadium.Butler was out of the league last season, but punted in all 16 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2012, averaging 43.8 yards on 77 punts. He was released by Detroit during the preseason after losing a position battle to Lions’ fifth-round pick Sam Martin. The 5: Takeaways from the Coyotes’ introduction of Alex Meruelo Grace expects Greinke trade to have emotional impact Corner Patrick Peterson added that he put the loss on his shoulders after getting burned time and again by Atlanta receiver Julio Jones. Jones had a career day, snagging 10 receptions for 189 yards and a touchdown to contribute to Atlanta’s 500 yards of offense. “We did not come out and match their intensity,” said head coach Bruce Arians postgame. He added that failing to “re-set the tempo” of the game at the beginning of the third quarter was also a factor.Arizona also lost Andre Ellington, Tyrann Mathieu and Paul Fanaika in the first half alone, adding to the growing number of first-stringers on the sideline. Backup running back Marion Grice came in for Ellington and only had 16 yards on five carries to add to Arizona’s meager 35 total yards on the ground. The Cardinals will try to handle this adversity in the upcoming weeks, when their opponents will include the playoff-contending Kansas City Chiefs and finish with all three division rivals. “I’m very disappointed in the way we showed up,” said Arians. “Like I said, everybody’s looking for answers. And when you look in the locker room, there’s only one place you look — you look in the mirror. And don’t lie to that guy.” Derrick Hall satisfied with D-backs’ buying and selling Johnson echoed his coach’s sentiment. “We definitely have to look in the mirror. Hopefully, everyone takes this personal.” 0 Comments Share Top Stories Former Cardinals kicker Phil Dawson retires Seeing a hunk of gum on the bottom of your shoe. A dumpster full of diapers and expired brisket. Slime eels. The Cardinals’ loss to the Atlanta Falcons. These are all ugly things. One doesn’t have to be. The Cardinals can still pull out of this two-game slump they’ve found themselves in after today’s loss to the Falcons Sunday. They’ll just have to re-evaluate themselves first. “Right now, we have something called adversity,” Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson said to Arizona Sports 98.7‘s Paul Calvisi.
1:52 left in second quarterWow. On first down Cardinals go with a screen pass that is intercepted by Packers DL Mike Daniels. Probably more of a good play by him than a bad one by Palmer, who may not have even seen him being covered up by some linemen. Horrid turn of events for the Cardinals, giving the Packers the ball at this spot of the field late in the half. 10:40 left in first quarterPackers pick up a first down but their drive falls short after Rodgers just misses Davante Adams on a third-and-long. The punt rolls to the Arizona five, which is where Palmer and the Cardinals will go to work.Worth noting the crowd has quite a few Packers fans in it, but has gotten loud in a pro-Cardinals way so far. 2:00 left in second quarterCardinals got the stop on third down but the Packers ran a fake punt on fourth down and got the first. A short run was followed by a pair of sacks — with Campbell getting the first and then he and Markus Golden sharing the second. The Packers actually punt this time, and the Cardinals have the ball at their own 25. 7:53 left in first quarterCardinals get a first down on a pass to Floyd and then pick up big yardage when David Johnson takes a dump off 44 yards into Green Bay territory. The rookie is really coming on strong of late. Palmer is sacked on first down and the Cardinals have it at the Green Bay 35. 9:34 left in third quarterPoor Aaron Rodgers. Kareem Martin hits him, he fumbles, Cory Redding recovers and races 36 yards for a touchdown. Broke a tackle, too.The score is 31-0 and this is quite a statement from the Cardinals against a team they may see again in the playoffs. Wow. End of first halfThe Cardinals head into the half with a 17-0 lead. Not always pretty, but mostly effective. Cards 30 minutes away from a first-round bye. 9:56 left in fourth quarterCardinals move the ball well and take time off the clock, but a hands to the face call on Ted Larsen wipes out a first down pass to Jaron Brown and then an incomplete pass leads to a punt. Justin Bethel makes the tackle at the Green Bay 13, where the Scott Tolzien-led Packers will start the drive. :06 left in second quarterNo risk it, no biscuit. Have a biscuit, Cardinals. Palmer hits John Brown for a seven-yard touchdown, and the PAT makes the score 17-0. What an incredible turn of events. 4 Comments Share Former Cardinals kicker Phil Dawson retires 5:48 left in second quarterCardinals go 72 yards in nine plays, taking 5:02 off the clock but failing to punch the ball into the end zone. More red zone troubles for a team that has really been trying to get past those. Catanzaro comes on and makes a short field goal (shorter than a PAT yet worth three times as much), and Arizona’s lead is now 10-0. Not a bad drive, but no one will feel good about how it ended. 14:40 left in third quarterPackers begin their drive at the 20, pick up some yards on a Starks run but he fumbles at the end of it. D.J. Swearinger popped the ball out, Jerraud Powers recovered. First play is a nice gain to Michael Floyd, second is a 14-yard David Johnson touchdown run. So there’s that. The PAT is good and the score is 24-0 home team. :04 left in third quarterFacing a 4th and goal from the three, the Packers throw short to Davante Adams and he is wrapped up by a host of Cardinals. Arizona gets the ball back at its own two. Andre Ellington in the game at running back. 6:31 left in third quarterThe Packers haven’t quit on this game yet, as Rodgers drives them down the field and punches it in via a 28-yard screen pass to Eddie Lacy. The two-point conversion attempt is good, and the score is 31-8 Cardinals. GLENDALE, Ariz. — Big game, anyone? The 12-2 Cardinals and 10-4 Green Bay Packers are battling for playoff positioning here in Week 16. The Carolina Panthers lost earlier in the day, meaning a win for the Cardinals would at worst clinch the No. 2 seed in the NFC but keep them alive for the top overall spot. The Packers, meanwhile, are hoping to continue their late-season surge and keep themselves in the running for that second seed. 6:29 left in third quarterPackers go for an onside kick. It made sense after a personal foul on the Cardinals during the touchdown meant they were kicking off from 15 yards further up the field. However, Jaron Brown was ready for it and pounced in the ball, setting the Cardinals up at their own 48. Kind of feels like one more touchdown here should officially do it. 4:53 left in second quarterNote to the Cardinals: Try not to end up in situations where Kevin Minter is covering James Jones. Anyway, the Packers are moving the ball and now face a third-and-two from their own 45. Big play coming up as a stop would get the Cardinals the ball back late in the half. Aaron Rodgers seems to finding a bit of a rhythm. KickoffThe Cardinals won the coin toss and elected to receive. Bruce Arians has often talked about wanting the ball first because he trusts Carson Palmer to lead a scoring drive and get the Cardinals an early lead. :22 left in second quarterPalmer hits Fitzgerald and now it’s first and goal from the Green Bay seven. Safety Rashad Johnson is out for the Cardinals, meaning they will be without their two starting safeties with Tyrann Mathieu sidelined with a torn ACL. Running back Andre Ellington is active, though, so we should see him mixed in some. For the Packers, corner Sam Shields will not play, so that’s a tough break for them.Should be a great game, so let’s get to it.1:35 left in fourth quarterAaand Kerwynn Williams runs for 19 yards. Shows how much I know.Anyway, the clock is ticking away on what is a 38-8 Cardinals win. A first-round bye has been locked up, 13 wins in a season — all sorts of good things. Going to head downstairs for some player reaction, look for plenty of stories on ArizonaSports.com. :38 left in second quarterPalmer does a great job of moving in the pocket before finding Michael Floyd with a perfect pass for a 47-yard gain. Another pass to Floyd picks up nine, and the Cardinals have the ball at the Green Bay 24.:57 left in second quarterThe Cardinals avoid disaster when Justin Bethel picks off Rodgers in the end zone. The pass was intended for James Jones, and it gives Arizona the ball at the 20 and maintains their two-score lead. With less than a minute and three timeouts, wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Cardinals try to get some points out of this drive. Then again, their last drive did end with a turnover, so… 2:00 left in fourth quarterCardinals forced a punt and are now trying to run out the clock with their reserves. It’s 3rd and 10 from their 15, though, so that will be difficult. Still, this game is very much in hand. 13:33 left in first quarterThe Cardinals post a rare three-and-out to start the game. A poor kickoff return, a missed connection to Floyd, a David Johnson run that went nowhere and a short pass to larry Fitzgerald did not get the job done. It was Fitzgerald’s 100th catch of the season, though. :30 left in first quarterDavid Johnson gets the Cardinals to the Green Bay 10 after catching a swing pass and juking the defender out of his shoes to gain extra yards. Wow, is this guy playing well. 8:21 left in fourth quarterThe ruling on the field stands, and the Packers punt from their end zone. J.J. Nelson fair catches it at the 50, and Drew Stanton takes over at QB for the Cardinals. Top Stories Grace expects Greinke trade to have emotional impact Cardinals’ D hanging tough today, limiting big plays. Arizona’s offense seems to be waking up a bit — can they put together another scoring drive here? 3:05 left in third quarterAn Alex Okafor sack of Rodgers is wiped out when Jerraud Powers, who was also there, hits the QB in the helmet for a personal foul. However, Frostee Rucker brings Rodgers down on one play and then Dwight Freeney got him on the next, with the ball being fumbled right to Jerraud Powers, who returned it for a TD. It was Arizona’s eighth sack of the day. 5:51 left in first quarterCardinals’ drive ends when Mike Iupati is beaten up the middle and Palmer is sacked. Drew Butler’s punt is downed at the Packers 4 after a great play by Brittan Golden. So far neither offense has really been able to get going. The Packers wasted good field position on their first drive and the Cardinals took themselves out of field goal range on their last one. 8:28 left in fourth quarterDwight Freeney collects another sack (his third of the game) and though the refs put the ball at the one, Bruce Arians challenges that forward progress had been stopped in the end zone, which would make this a safety. He might be right. Either way, the Cardinals continue to put a hurting on the Packers. The 5: Takeaways from the Coyotes’ introduction of Alex Meruelo 10:50 left in second quarterCalais Campbell brings down Rodgers for a sack on third down — Packers are having trouble with No. 93 today — and though Patrick Peterson muffs the punt, Arizona recovers and takes over at their own 27. 14:07 left in second quarterCardinals come through on third down when Palmer hits an open Larry Fitzgerald for a three-yard score. Chants of “Larry, Larry” come down from the crowd in appreciation for the team’s top receiver.Catanzaro’s PAT is good (hasn’t always been a sure thing, of late), and the Cardinals are up 7-0. Derrick Hall satisfied with D-backs’ buying and selling 5:10 left in fourth quarterKerwynn Williams coughs up the football on a run, the Packers recover and advance the ball to the Green Bay 41. While this game is over, that’s not something the Cardinals wanted to see from a player who they will need to rely on some. Packers take over near midfield. 2:37 left in first quarterPackers pick up a first down but Cardinals get a stop. A personal foul on Green Bay during the punt pushes the ball to the 50. 12:31 left in third quarterA Dwight Freeney sack of Rodgers makes it 3rd and 17 from the Green Bay 2, but Rodgers hits a wide open Davante Adams deep for the first down. Rodgers is crushed by Deone Bucannon on first down and fumbles the ball, but is able to recover. It’s a seven-yard loss and the Cards’ D, minus that breakdown that led to the pass to Adams, is rolling. End of first quarterFollowing an injury break (Packers’ B.J. Raji has since gone to the locker room) the Cardinals let the clock run out and head to the other side of the field with the score 0-0. Arizona is threatening, though, and is hoping to cash in here in the red zone. Hasn’t always been easy for them this season. :51 left in third quarterThe Cardinals appeared to the Packers stopped again, but a pass interference on Justin Bethel gave Green Bay the ball deep in Arizona territory. It was an iffy call, and one Bruce Arians disagreed with. He explained to the refs in a not-so-subtle way he thought it was uncatchable, and earned a personal foul penalty with some interesting language (reading lips on replay). Right now it’s 2nd and goal from the 7. 4:26 left in third quarterCardinals don’t go anywhere as Palmer misses an open John Brown down the field for what would have likely been a TD on third down. He doesn’t miss many, but that was one. Drew Butler’s punt is fair caught at the Green Bay 11.
0 Comments Share Neither of them has Williams’ potential. Let Williams screw up on the field. Let him learn. It will get uglier before it gets better.Everybody learns on the job to a varying degree. The Army Golden Knights have a different acceptable margin of error than a barista. If you want to be a Super Bowl contender, you can’t let young offensive lineman, allow your quarterback to get killed so “learning on the job” in that case means “learn from the sideline.”At cornerback, a mistake leads to a potential touchdown. Although that’s a huge issue for winning games, it can be overcome much easier than an injured starting quarterback. There are 0.377 reasons to start Williams: The names of the six (or seven) starting quarterbacks in the first 6 weeks of the season do not put the fear of God into any defensive coordinator.Jimmy Garoppolo, Jameis Winston, Tyrod Taylor, Case Keenum/Jared Goff, Blaine Gabbert and Ryan Fitzpatrick are 69-114 as starting quarterbacks. They’ve won 37 percent of their starts. The Cardinals’ schedule is perfect to break in a new running back-turned-corner.Obviously, Williams is going to give up big plays. The offensive coaching staff of the Patriots might actually be saying, “Thank goodness Garoppolo’s first start has an available target like Williams.” Top Stories The key, however, is not getting Williams ready for the start of the season, as much as it is staying mentally strong as he goes through the beginning of his NFL career. A total loss of confidence is a major problem, but if every beatdown is treated as a learning experience, Williams has the perfect ramp to success through the first six quarterbacks of the season.Williams should be — and will be — evaluated every game. He has to keep climbing and the team can’t be patient forever. If the Cardinals are truly a Super Bowl contender, they should be able to cover their blemish from Sunday Night Football against New England to Monday Night Football versus the Jets, five weeks later. On Oct. 23 and 30, Williams will go up against two quarterbacks with a 91-50 record. Playoff seeds aren’t normally determined in October but back-to-back primetime games against Seattle and Carolina will have a dramatic effect on the direction the season takes for Arizona.Start Williams for weeks 1-6. More people are embarking on aspirational holidays for shorter periods rather than going on less expensive trips, it has been suggested.Editor of Wanderlust magazine Dan Linstead said that people with less money are opting for more expensive holidays at the expense of a longer time away.”You’ll find people doing ten days in Dubai or ten days in Thailand rather than a fortnight if that’s the way that they can have the level of accommodation and experience that they are after,” he commented.Mr Linstead said a possible reason for this is another poor British summer weather-wise, which he believes has increased people’s desire for more luxurious sunshine destinations. He went on to say that individuals with a bit more money were taking “a few months or even a year out” and returning to the UK once the economy begins to improve.According to a Thomson and First Choice trends report published last month, 80 percent of Brits are expecting to take a holiday next year, while a similar number said the recession will not affect their travel plans.ReturnOne wayMulti-cityFromAdd nearby airports ToAdd nearby airportsDepart14/08/2019Return21/08/2019Cabin Class & Travellers1 adult, EconomyDirect flights onlySearch flights Map RelatedBrits intend to spend the same amount on this year’s holiday as in 2008Most British holidaymakers are intending to spend the same amount on their holiday this year as they did in 2008The Skyscanner travel glossaryDo you know your praycation from your bakecation from your laycation? FILE – In this April 27, 2016 file photo, Tavis Smiley appears at the 33rd annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards in Los Angeles. Less than a month after PBS dropped Tavis Smiley’s talk show because of inappropriate relationships with subordinates, Smiley announced a deal Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, for a new series about inspirational stories titled, “The Upside with Tavis Smiley.” It will be distributed digitally and also shown on The Word Network, a cable and satellite network with religious programming aimed at an African-American audience. (Photo by Rich Fury/Invision/AP, File) PASADENA, Calif. – Less than a month after PBS dropped Tavis Smiley’s talk show after reported inappropriate relationships with subordinates, Smiley announced a deal Monday to go back to work with a new series about inspirational stories. His series, “The Upside with Tavis Smiley,” will be streamed online and shown on The Word Network, a religious-oriented cable and satellite channel directed at black viewers. He also announced a five-city “town hall” tour to talk about relationships in the workplace.Among the men caught up in sexual misconduct cases the past few months, Smiley has been most aggressive in fighting back and the first to publicly announce plans to resume his career. His new show is expected to start in the spring.Smiley compared the experience to when he was fired by BET in 2001 for offering an interview that he had conducted with a newsmaker to ABC News, a corporate competitor. He wrote books about rebounding from setbacks, and launched the late-night talk show with PBS that aired for 14 years.“I would not wish this experience on my worst enemy,” Smiley said. “Having said that, the last time this happened, great things came out of it.”Although conceding that what was once considered acceptable in the workplace may no longer be, Smiley has been defiant, suggesting that romances between professional colleagues is hardly unusual. However, PBS investigators reportedly found women who felt their advancement at work was tied to the sexual relationships, an assertion Smiley has denied. He’ll be a test case for whether fans will be willing to overlook behaviour that an employer considered out of bounds.By fashioning a new program focusing on inspirational stories instead of more general interest news and entertainment, Smiley will sidestep the issue of whether his downfall would make celebrities reluctant to be interviewed by him. By striking a digital distribution deal with the media company AerNow and a little-watched cable network, he will also be much less visible. But Smiley said he believed that going digital positions him well for the future. He also said he’ll attract a younger audience than he was getting at PBS, and that he has also struck a deal for international distribution for “The Upside” and his production company’s inventory of interviews that he conducted in the past.He announced plans for a book and online course in “Leading by Listening.”His “town hall” appearances in Chicago, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco will have him moderating discussions about acceptable workplace protocols.“Everyone is saying, ‘We need to talk about this,’ but nobody is doing that,” he said. “Nobody is creating a space for it. Now here I am doing it.”Smiley said he was motivated to get back to work quickly because of concern for employees of his production company who learned that the PBS show was ending at the beginning of the holiday season. He said he wasn’t concerned that by moving so quickly, he might be missing out on better opportunities if he waited for the story of his firing to fade.“You can only make decisions based on what’s in front of you,” he said. “You can’t make decisions based on what might happen, on what may come.”He said that as “a black man in America,” he knows that better offers may never come. by David Bauder, The Associated Press Posted Jan 8, 2018 12:03 pm PDT Last Updated Jan 8, 2018 at 7:00 pm PDT AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email Tavis Smiley announces deal for new show

Overseas branches of Jamie’s Italian are not affected, nor is Fifteen Cornwall, which operates as a franchise.Oliver said Jamie’s Italian was launched in 2008 “with the intention of positively disrupting mid-market dining” with higher quality ingredients, animal welfare standards, better service and good value. But the launch came just as local businesses throughout the U.K. were squeezed by the onset of the 2008 financial crisis. Rising food prices, increasing rents and competition took a toll. The company had been in trouble for at least two years, despite Oliver’s global fame on the back of his cookbooks and television shows. Last year, it shuttered 12 of its 37 sites in Britain, while five branches of the Australian arm of Jamie’s Italian were sold off and another put into administration. He has personally pumped 13 million pounds into his Italian chain, but it was not enough.“I appreciate how difficult this is for everyone affected,” he said.

Four people believed connected with an attempted murder on Thursday were remanded for eight days on Saturday, while three more people are wanted by police.According to a police report, the four men – a 37-year-old Albanian, his 32-year-old brother, a 26-year-old Georgian, and a 39-year-old Greek Cypriot – were reportedly involved in a shooting incident against a 50-year-old British Cypriot man and a friend of his in Limassol. The 50-year-old, a Nicosia resident, told police that on Tuesday night he had arranged to meet with the Albanian man, with whom he had financial differences. The man said he had hosted the 37-year-old in his Nicosia home in the past, and therefore suspected him of being involved in its robbery a few weeks ago, despite his denials. The purpose of the meeting, he said, was that the 37-year-old had pledged to mediate the return of property stolen from the 50-year-old’s house. On Monday, the Albanian man, along with his brother and the Georgian man, visited the 50-year-old and told him that he could retrieve some of the items stolen – in particular, three mobile phones. They arranged to meet in Limassol on Thursday so the phones could be handed over. But after arriving at the meeting point, accompanied by a friend of his, the 50-year-old said he saw the 37-year-old arrive with four other individuals. When he refused to get out of his car, as instructed, the 37-year-old drew a pistol and shot it at the driver’s door. The two men fled the scene after being shot at.Next, the 32-year-old Albanian called the 50-year-old on the phone and demanded €1.100 on behalf of “certain people” he had asked to place a bomb in his brother’s car.On Friday, police arrested the 37-year-old, while further investigation prompted the arrest of three more men, thought to be involved in the case.During investigation, police also found a loaded pistol, which was seized as evidence.Although the 37-year-old admits to being at the scene and possession of the pistol, he denied having fired it – though the car has a bullet hole consistent with the 50-year-old’s story – and claims to have gotten it from a Bulgarian man.His brother denied any involvement, while further investigation revealed that he is in Cyprus illegally because he had been deported and denied re-entry since April 2, 2015.Police are looking for the Bulgarian man who allegedly supplied the pistol, as well as three others thought to be involved in the incident. You May LikeTruthFinder People Search SubscriptionOne Thing All Liars Have in Common, Brace YourselfTruthFinder People Search SubscriptionUndoFigLeaf Beta AppGet Maximum Privacy with Minimum EffortFigLeaf Beta AppUndoThrone: Free Online GamesPlay this for 1 minute and see why everyone is addicted!Throne: Free Online GamesUndo Concern over falling tourism numbersUndoTurkish Cypriot actions in Varosha ‘a clear violation’ of UN resolutions, Nicosia saysUndoTwo arrested in connection with attempted murderUndoby Taboolaby Taboola
Over the past 12 years taxpayers paid €1.7 million in rent for storage space on state land in Nicosia leased to a private company for €6,660 per year, the House watchdog committee heard on Thursday. The case concerns land in the Strovolos industrial estate leased to a company by the energy ministry for €6,660 per year. After building a warehouse on the land, the company then sublet the space to the state pharmaceutical services for €135,000 per year, MPs heard.Auditor-general Odysseas Michaelides told the committee that “from April 1, 2004, when the space was sublet to the pharmaceutical services, until June 30, 2016, they paid around €1.7m in rent to the company” against some €80,000 paid by the business to the energy ministry. The land was initially leased to the company from May 1979 to April 2012, and was released with the approval of then energy minister Neoclis Sylikiotis for an additional 33 years – from May 2012 to April 2045.Up until April 2012, when the first lease expired, taxpayers paid the company some €1.2m in rent, the auditor said, adding that it was an agreement that only benefitted the business.Michaelides said the huge difference in rent was not exclusively due to the warehouse but apparently to the ministry’s failure to impose rent at market prices and the excessively high rent agreed between the pharmaceutical services and the company.Committee chairman, Diko MP Zaharias Koulias said the matter will be investigated to the last detail to determine whether there was conflict of interest.Koulias said the company had not even secured a building permit for the warehouse, wondering why people responsible for medicines acted in such a way for such a serious issue. The Diko MP said another matter emerged during the discussion, involving the current head of the pharmaceutical services Louis Panayi. It concerns the acquisition of a shop in Aglantzia, Nicosia, by Panayi or his mother in law, which later housed a section of the pharmaceutical services. The shop in question is next to other buildings that already housed the pharmaceutical services.“The auditor will examine whether there is wrongdoing,” Koulias said. “I don’t know if it’s wrong or not but it will be investigated to the end whether there is conflict of interest.”Edek MP Marinos Sizopoulos who had tabled the issue said it was something that had been happening in Cyprus for years.“Through this irregularity, many people have profited on the back of taxpayers, possibly with the support or silence or help, in some cases, of state officials.”Green Party MP Giorgos Perdikis said similar scandalous arrangements could be found in other industrial areas where ‘it is a mess’.“The state is intentionally or unintentionally deceived and there is misappropriation of public wealth in industrial areas,” Perdikis said. You May LikeLuxury Crossover SUV I Search AdsThese SUVs Are The Cream Of The Crop. The Turkish Cypriot ‘parliament’ on Monday extended the Immovable Property Commission’s (IPC) mandate by two years, but a proposed law aiming to create funding for the body was not discussed.Opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Tufan Erhurman said “the efficiency and the funding of the IPC will be one of the most important issues in the next parliament”.Erhurman added there was a risk the ECHR could declare that “the IPC is not an effective domestic remedy” for Greek Cypriot claims on their occupied properties in the north. The European Court for Human Rights (ECHR) last Tuesday upheld a complaint filed by a Greek Cypriot refugee against Turkey over the lack of effectiveness of the IPC.The body has been dogged by financial issues in recent years as Turkey has reduced its funding and the number of applications has dropped from 337 in 2013 to 65 in 2017.A draft law which would impose a 20 per cent tax on the sale of Greek Cypriot properties in the north for the funding of the IPC has been sitting in ‘parliament’ for three years.CTP ‘MP’ Ferdi Sabit Soyer listed a number of suggestions: “the number of employees should be increased, the internal regulations strengthened, funding from the central bank’s budget and 30 per cent of the income from state property rents.”A number of ‘MPs’ expressed concern that there were still Turkish Cypriots that hadn’t been compensated for properties left in the south.Communal Democracy Party ‘MP’ Huseyin Angolemli said there were still citizens with points remaining but land was being distributed to others.“What should our people do, where should they apply to? We need to find a solution to their properties too,” he said. The‘TRNC’ has a points-based system to allocate properties to Turkish Cypriots who left their homes and land in the south following the Turkish invasion in 1974.Independent ‘MP’ Mehmet Cakici said there wasn’t a fair system in place for Turkish Cypriots and that some people were unfairly benefitting from distributions. He called for a separate institution that Turkish Cypriots can apply to to be set up.The IPC has paid almost £243 million in compensation to Greek Cypriots since 2006.You May LikeFreedom Debt ReliefPeople In Heavy CC Debt Are In For Big SurpriseFreedom Debt ReliefUndoDr. Marty ProPower Plus Supplement3 Dangerous Foods People Feed Their Dogs (Without Realizing It)Dr. Marty ProPower Plus SupplementUndoE Commerce Platform I Search AdsSelling Online Has Never Been Easier. The government on Thursday dismissed reports that the trilateral summit between Cyprus, Greece and Israel scheduled for next week was cancelled due to Tel Aviv’s discontent over Nicosia and Athens’ refusal to back at the UN vote last month the recognition by the US of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The trilateral summit, slated to take place next Monday in Nicosia, was postponed to a date to be announced later. The reason given was that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must attend parliament (Knesset) that day, as it is set to vote on a crucial bill that will oblige convenience stores to close on Shabbat. But according to daily newspaper Politis, the real reason behind the cancellation of the trilateral summit is Netanyahu’s discontent over Cyprus’ and Greece’s votes at the UN general assembly last month against the unilateral recognition by the US of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.Citing diplomatic sources, Politis said that Israel reacted strongly to Nicosia’s and Athens’ support for the Palestinian position on the matter through its embassies in the two countries, and that President Nicos Anastasiades had to personally call Netanyahu to tone down the tension.Anastasiades reportedly told Netanyahu that this changes nothing regarding relations between Cyprus and Israel, but that as long as the settlement of the Cyprus problem is pending the country cannot vote for proposals that could backfire against it in the future.Politis quoted the same sources as saying that if the vote at the Knesset was the reason behind the postponement, then why was new one for the trilateral not announced?Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides, however, dismissed the report as untrue.“It is not backed by actual data,” Christodoulides told state broadcaster CyBC radio on Thursday.Israel had in fact suggested hosting the tripartite on the same date, Christodoulides said, but it was not possible for Anastasiades and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to travel to Israel on that day.“Israel suggested for the tripartite to take place there for Netanyahu, if necessary, to attend the discussion on this very important issue at the Knesset,” Christodoulides said.He added that the government is in consultations with Athens and Tel Aviv to set a new date for the trilateral. You May LikeLuxury Crossover SUV I Search AdsThese SUVs Are The Cream Of The Crop.
